Future Vision Foundation is pleased to announce that Prof Fiona Stapleton and the late Richard Grills have been recognised in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours for their exemplary service to eye health.

A valued member of the Foundation’s board of directors, Prof Stapleton was awarded Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the General Division for her distinguished service to optometry as a researcher, mentor and role model, to tertiary education, and to national and international organisations.

Meanwhile, Mr Grills – a member of the Foundation’s advisory committee at the time of his passing – was posthumously awarded Member (AM) in the General Division for significant service to community eye health and the ophthalmic optics industry. This follows the recent establishment of two annual university prizes named in his memory.

These honours represent well-deserved recognition for the contributions of Prof Stapleton and Mr Grills, which have had local, national and international impact for patients with eye conditions.
